As you’ve already learned, I held two terms with AmeriCorps. Within those terms, there were weeks where I was empty in my stomach but my heart was full. This is the point in my life when I learned about food insecurity. To combat this I would volunteer extra hours at Project MANA in order to be able to receive food from their food pantry. Many people view Lake Tahoe as a place where the wealthy go to get away; but what they don’t see if the families that need to continue to feed themselves during the shoulder seasons. This can be said about many, many places in America; including our town of Martinez.

June is National Hunger Awareness Month, and our community is hosting Passion to the Streets 2nd Annual Car Show benefiting homeless students and families in the Martinez Unified School District. The event is held on Saturday, June 22nd from 8:00am to  3:00pm and is free to the public. NOT SO FUN FACT: One in thirty American children will face homelessness sometime this year. These kids miss an average of 88 school days per year.

Quickly, I wanted to give you an update on the King of the County BBQ Challenge & Music Festival – It was an amazing time! We saw some many of our wonderful neighbors and had a lot of our family over after the event. We are still so, so in love with our home and have started in on a couple of our big projects. The photo displayed here is of Mark and I, we had waaay too much fun while there!
